The Messenger – June 2018

From The Pastor’s Desk…..

Dear Church Family,

Busy, Busy, Busy! June is here and the race is on. We have so many events to attend, so much to accomplish that we forget that as Christians we are first to follow Christ.
In my morning devotion, I was reading of the calling of the first disciples. I’m sure they were as busy in their lives as we are. In Mark 1:18 we read, “At once, they left their nets and followed Him.”

Can you form this picture in your mind? As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, He saw fishermen busy with their chores. As He came to Simon Peter and his brother Andrew, He stopped and invited them to come with Him.
Scripture tells us that immediately (at once) they stopped their work and followed Him. Imagine that: one minute they are fishermen, the next they are followers of Jesus, to become two of His disciples.

What happened here? Had they heard of this Jesus, of his teachings, of his miracles? Were their hearts and minds already turning, toward Him? They didn’t ask, “Where are you going? What are we going to do? What about our boat?

What draws us to Jesus? As He speaks to us at work, at play, or just our general busy lives are we so drawn to Him that we immediately respond? Or are we more inclined to respond, just a minute, not now, or perhaps let me finish this?

When Jesus calls, will we stop and follow Him? Reading on in Mark 1 we learn how He called James and John. They also stopped their busy fisherman chores and followed Him without delay.

What about us? Are you too busy for God?

In His Service,
Pastor Joe
