Dear Church Family & Friends,
If you spend any time at all watching television or pretty much any of the social media outlets this month you will be bombarded by political ads.
And we all know that when political candidates run for office, the media is relentless in comparing what they say with past facts about their behavior.
Reporters know that voters are looking for leaders who are consistent in their beliefs and in their behavior. We want to be able to trust that once a candidate is elected, he or she will do what they said they’re going to do.
Whether we realize it or not, we Christians are all held to this same standard.
Paul in Colossians 3:17 wrote; “And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”
We may not be running for office, but others notice how our words line up with our actions. As followers of Christ, we want to make sure we “walk the talk” and do more than just give lip service to our faith.
There’s nothing more disheartening to see than a person who claims to know Jesus doing something that’s obviously opposite of his example. I’m not only talking about person-to-person contact, but also what we reveal about ourselves on social networks.
As a pastor there are times when I get tired of people telling me to be careful what I say or do in public. While I appreciate their intention, don’t we all do and say things we wish we could take back.
“Walk the talk”. God calls all of us to be doers of his Word and not hearers only.
Today let others know you follow Jesus by what you say and what you do.
As Paul reminds us: “whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” Col. 3:17.
In His Service, Pastor Joe
