Messenger – February 2024

Pastor’s Corner

Where does the time go? Here we are a month into 2024. We have already seen some new faces on Sunday morning and some little ones that are crawling around. Praise the Lord! It’s exciting to see what God is doing in our midst. We are poised for new choices and new challenges that will shape our future together.

FHPC has always been faithful in keeping the church alive for decades. We are a group who has always been there for one another. Our love and support for one another is strong. The has now come for us to breathe new life into our church so that we can continue to provide the same care and support for a new generation. We face new challenges as the new generations bring their frustrations with the relevance our our church in their lives. Do we believe that our church is relevant for all the concerns and frustrations that the new generation and it’s youth bring?

We need to answer these questions with more than just words. Our actions will speak louder than any words. What actions are we willing to take on to meet the challenges of those who will look to us to have answers, that we meet them where they are? They need love…We have that. The need family…We have that. They need purpose…We have that. They need hope…We have that. They need grace…We have that. Most of all they need Jesus in their lives and we have that to give them. So, what’s missing? New ways to show just how much we love them? New ways to communicate Jesus to them in ways that are relevant to them. New ideas that will take shape to serve and meet the needs of new Moms; provide ministries for children that will engage them in our church; user-friendly services that make it easy for them to sing and ask questions. These are all well within our reach to provide.

In the Love of Christ, Pastor Al

The Souper Bowl of Caringbegan in 1990 with a simple prayersaid by Reverend Brad Smith at Spring Valley Presbyterian Churchin Columbia, South Carolina:Lord, even as we enjoy the Super Bowl football game, help us be mindful of those who are without a bowl of soup to eat. The Souper Bowl of Caring empowers and unites communities to tackle hunger using the energy of the Big Game. Its vision is to transform the Big Game into a nationwide movement inspiring people to give locally and make a collective impact on hunger. People collect monetary donations traditionally during the weeks leading up to Super Bowl Sunday. All of the money is then given directly to local charities of the group’s choice.Usually The Franklin Hill Presbyterian Church collects monetary donations until Super Bowl Sunday, which this year is February 11th but this year we will extend until Sunday, February 18th.The donations will be distributed locally through our Local Missions Outreach Program.

Rev. Mahalo has been busy getting local support for his school rebuilding project. He has been visiting businesses and individuals to get funds to repair the necessary rooms. He has sent us a picture of the completed structure but he needs funds for “hooking electricity, electricity, painting, and stationary”. They also need to fix doors and windows. All this work is necessary because the school was closed by their government inspectors in December as being unsafe until repairs were made. Two new classrooms were built and just need the finishing touches. but the school is now open for the new year. Rev. Mahalo is very appreciative of the support that we have provided that has made this school a reality and it has given the students an education for something other than just staying on the streets. Education and productive activity is their way out and up, with our help     Submitted By Jim Kessler

Don’t forget our card ministry - If you would like a card sent to a particular person to give them a lift or let them know they are missed or offer encouragement, etc. etc., just give the name and address to Cathe. Cards, envelopes and postage will be provided and placed on a table in the Community Building the first Sunday of each month. As we file past the table on our way to the coffee pot, we will be able to sign each of the cards and Cathe will address the envelopes and mail them.
