The Messenger – November 2015

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK…..

Dear Church Family,

Ephesians 4: 23 “Be made New in the Attitude of Your Minds”

November brings us Election Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, and the start of the Advent season. As I meditated on Ephesians 4: 23 I had to ask myself, How would God vote or honor those who serve? What would his attitude be toward us? He knows the attitude of our minds.

While searching for a way to “make new” “The Attitude of” my mind, I found this story I would like to share.

Thanksgiving Day was approaching and the family had received a card picturing a Pilgrim family on their way to church. Grandma showed the card to her young grandchildren and remarked “The Pilgrim children liked going to church with their parents. ”Oh yeah? Her grandson replied, then why is the dad carrying that rifle?”

Maybe this November is a good time to take a look at our own attitudes. Do we see it as a duty or a privilege to vote? Do we really honor those who served not only in praise but also in serving them? Are we truly thankful for all that God has blessed us with? Our home, family, country and freedom. What is OUR attitude in worship and praise to God? Do we find it be one of obligation or Joy?

Now is the time, as Paul puts it to “Be made new in the attitude of your mind”

In His Service,
Pastor Joe and Bonne

Updated on Rev. Silvanus Malaho in Kenya: This past month he has focused on getting his children in schools. Teacher strikes had closed schools after just 2 days in the classrooms. Children were sent home. After several weeks. teacher strikes were settled and school fees were greatly increased, but students were again transported back to their schools. He has 6 students in High School, 8 students in Primary school, 4 in college, and 2 at home because school fees have not yet been paid. These are his natural and adopted children. The current dilemma deals with his daughter Patricia, and his son Emmanuel. 4 years ago we promised to fund 4 years of schooling in high school. She attended school in Nairobi, which is 14 hours travel from their home. Last year terrorists closed the school there, and she enrolled in a Catholic school elsewhere. She lost some credits and has not graduated and our funds for her account, have been exhausted. What do we do??? Emmanuel is out of high school. He is hoping to go to college at Keystone college in Factoryville, PA. He has completed the application and been accepted for entry in January 2016. The problem is that he must come up with fees for tuition, room and board, books, and any special fees. He asks that we will pray for a favorable outcome for him.

He always says a big “THANK YOU” for whatever we have done to help them come this far.
