The Messenger – April 2017

Dear Church Family,

As April arrives we think of Spring and Easter, a time of renewal and redemption. In Psalm 107:2 it says “Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, those He redeemed from the hands of the enemy.”

Redemption is the act of being bought back with a price paid in full. When we buy something, we pay a price.  Sometimes it’s full price. If we are lucky, it’s on sale. Jesus paid a price for us through His death on the cross. This price was the ultimate price to pay. There were no markdowns on Redemption Day.

When we buy something, we take the item from it’s previous owner. Jesus took us from the power of sin and death. His crucifixion freed us from the control of our sinful nature. He freed us from selfishness, pride, anger, retaliation, greed, lust….and the list goes on.

Once we are Redeemed, we are to “SAY SO,” as David tells us in Psalm 107. We should say so in thanks and praise to God for sending His one and only son and giving Him the will to obey. We should say so to those around in us through our changed attitude and actions. We should say so when God blesses us instead of taking the credit for ourselves. We should say so when others question our decision-making which may seem abnormal to those around us.

Christ paid the price so that we can have a personal relationship with Him. In turn, we are to share our redemption experience with others. When God gives you the opportunity, may you find courage and strength in Him to use it. Let your light shine for Christ so that others may see His love and glory through you.  You are the only Christ some people see, so SAY SO!

In His Service,
Pastor Joe

The Presbyterian Women met on Monday March 13 with the main agenda items being the upcoming Rummage Sale and the Mother/Daughter Banquet.  The Rummage and Bake Sale will be held Friday April 28 from 9am to 2pm  and Saturday April 29 from 9am to 1pm/  A soup and sandwich lunch will be served both days and take out pints or quarts of soup will be available. If you are bringing a crock pot of soup, please put your name on both the lid and the the crock. Jan Kessler is still missing her crock, so if you have a black one, please make sure it is yours. Hers had an attaching lid, so the crock had spaces for that locking mechanism, so her soup doesn’t spill coming up the hill.  Please, check yours AGAIN!!!  If you would like to donate baked goods, pies sell VERY well, although other goodies are appreciated as well.
The Mother/Daughter Banquet will be held on Monday May 8, beginning at 6:00. Please bring a dish to share.        Submitted by Joyce Printz

Madrigal Music in Montrose – Join us in the sanctuary of First Presbyterian, at 7 pm, Saturday, April 22 when the Madrigal Choir of Binghamton presents an exciting concert, Iberia in the Americas. Angels
By Rick Jones
In Sunday School we are studying angels. All are welcome to come and have coffee.
Angels are God’s messengers. What are they like? Do they have wings? How many are there? What are their names? What do they all do? Are they men or like women? What are their jobs? Are they invisible or seen?  During the trying times of our lives angels may intervene. Have you ever seen an angel? Did a thought come to mind in a crisis and you wondered where that came from? Did someone come out of nowhere and help you?
These questions are answered in our study. Join us for a study in God’s word and have fellowship with us. Besides it’s fun! My angels may look alot like you. Just saying.
